Rwanda is among the smallest countries in East Africa. The country has developed greatly beside the horrible days of genocide. Among the major reasons which has made Rwanda to develop is peace, Tourism and hospitality. Rwanda has incredible tourism destinations with attractions which are memorable. Among the attractions found in Rwanda include, mountain Gorillas, chimpanzees and wildlife.

Many tourism activities are conducted in the country for instance, gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, game drives, boat cruises, birding and many more. Mountain gorillas can only be found in 3 countries Rwanda Uganda and democratic Republic of Congo. Since Rwanda’ s volcano national park is only approx. 2 hours’ drive from Kigali, most visitors find it easy to track mountain gorillas in this country.

Volcano National Park

This is known to be home to mountain gorillas in Rwanda, the park is located in Musanze Ruhengeri just approx. 2 hours drive from Kigali. This makes the park to be easily accessible.

Volcano national park has many habituated gorillas where by each group is visited by 8 visitors per day. since gorilla permits are on high demand, this calls for booking prior to the trip.

The park is also rich with other attractions like golden monkeys, volcanoes, Dian fossey grave, birds and many more.

Here below are some of the activities which can be done in volcano National Park.

Gorilla Tracking. This is a major activity in this park. Mountain gorillas are unique primates and intelligent sharing 98 % of DNA with humans. Spending 1 hour with these majestic creatures is magical and memorable.

Golden monkey Tracking. These are also unique creatures in this park rarely seen elsewhere except in virungas. They have a golden color, and very active. The activity starts in the morning at the park headquarter.

Volcano Hiking.This is an activity in volcano national Park loved by hikers. They are 4 volcanoes which can be hiked in Rwanda, Mount Bisoke, Mount karisimbi, muhabura, and Gahinga. Sabyinyo cannot be hiked from Rwandan side due to sharp ridges.

Each volcano has different attractions both as you hike and on the top. The park guides will be explaining and identifying different attractions as you hike.

Dian fossey grave visit. Dian fossey was an American primatologist who loved and protected mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Unfortunately, she was murdered in her research Centre on the mountain and she was buried next to her gorilla digit. Her legacy still remains and awareness.

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is the only wildlife park in Rwanda home to many wildlife animals including the big five. The park has animals like giraffe, elephants, lions, buffaloes, Rhinos, leopards and many more.

Besides the wildlife, the park has water bodies like lake Ihema, birds’ culture and many more

Game drives. To be able to see a abundancy of wild animals in the park, it has to be through game drive in a safari vehicle. The game drive can be done very early in the morning or in the evening. Many animals will be seen in the drive like antelopes, big five, giraffes, and many others.

Boat cruise. Boat cruise in Akagera can be done on lake Ihema located in the park. The boat cruise will let visitors enjoy the cool breeze, aquatic attractions and many more.

Nyungwe National Park

This is among the great forests in Rwanda home to diversity of species which makes the park unique and among the prime destinations. Nyungwe is home to chimpanzees, other primates like monkeys, birds, falls, hills and many.

Chimpanzee Tracking. This is one of the major activities in Nyungwe National Park. Visitors track chimpanzees in kyamudongo forest a section of Nyungwe. The activity starts very early in the morning with briefing at the park headquarters. Chimpanzees are very active and visitors will have to be ready to follow them as they enjoy the experience.

Nature walk. There are many nature walks in Nyungwe National some are long and others are shot. Among the common Nature Walk is the water fall which has the highlight of the fall. Nature walks will make visitors come closer to attractions and get that attachment

Canopy walk. This was the first of its own in East Africa. Canopy walk involves walking on a raised platform and many attractions will be seen from above like birds, canopies and any more.
