Golden monkeys are among the top tourist attractions in Volcanoes National Park and Rwanda at large however, their trek is not so physically demanding as that of Gorilla Trekking. In that case weak travelers can go golden monkeys and forego Gorillas or do both if they are physically fit.
Day 1: Kigali Airport – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (PVN)
At Kigali Airport, you will meet our safari guide/ driver. He will welcome and brief you before setting off to Volcanoes National Park. The 2-hour drive will reward the views of some of a thousand hills of Rwanda with clear views of the Virunga mountains. In the park, you can do a Musanze community tour or visit the twin Lake: burera and Ruhondo or simply relax at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in PVN
Meet mountain Gorillas in their natural environment on this day. It’s a morning activity which starts at 8am after briefing at 7:30am. Visitors are grouped into a maximum of 8 people to visit each gorilla family and 1hr is given to stay with the gentle giants (Gorillas). You can hire a porter to carry your bottle of water and a simple back to avoid quick exhaustion in the course of the trek. Dinner and overnight at the safari Lodge you stayed on day 1.
Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking
The second option to think about after Gorilla trekking. Its amazing to combine both treks on the same tour. Unlike Gorilla trekking, the golden monkey trek is less strenuous because golden monkeys overstay in the same place which is plentiful of pastures enabling the game rangers to easily detect their daily locations. Golden monkeys are fitter than gorillas so, carry quick snap-capturing cameras. Return to your Gorilla safari Lodge for lunch, dinner, and overnight.
Day 4: Return to Kigali Airport – Departure
Drive at leisure back to Kigali city. Be at the Airport at least 3 hours to the flight time to be on the same side.
