To explore the park, you must reach many places and do almost 90% of the tourist activities. On this safari, tourists are expected to go gorilla trekking, Golden monkey trekking, Dian Fossey tomb tour, Birding, Volcano climbing, Caving, and cultural tour.
Day 1: Kigali Airport – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will be welcomed by our representative at Kigali Airport. Tour Kigali city; visit the Genocide Memorial Museum, Fruit Markets, Local Art and Craft shops, malls, and so on.
Dinner and overnight at Virunga Lodge, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, and Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2: Reserved for Gorilla Trekking
Gorilla trekking is the top tourist activity in VPN and Rwanda at large so a priority. Meet gorillas on the first day of this safari. Walk into the jungles after briefing until you meet them in their natural habitat. 1hrs is given to stay with gorillas and set your cameras ready to capture memorable photos.
Thereafter, you will return to your accommodation for lunch, relax, and wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking
Meet golden monkeys in the bamboo vegetation of Volcanoes National Park. You will experience a simpler trek compared to the Gorilla trek. Golden Monkeys are among the beautiful primates and you are free to take as many photos as possible. Return to your accommodation with great memories.
Day 4: Dian Fossey tomb tour
It’s a tomb of Dian Fossey which is situated at Karisoke station. Dian Fossey’s tomb has become a historical landmark in Rwanda and tourists all over the world travel to explore this area. Dian Fossey’s tomb/ grave site is just next to the gorillas which had also been killed by the poachers.
It’s 1 ½hrs hike from the park headquarters to the tomb or 3hrs hike (round trip).
Day 5: Birding in Volcanoes National Park
Birding is a year-round activity because different birds are found in the wet season and dry season. Volcanoes National Park protects over 200 distinct bird species and carrying a camera and a binocular is important.
While in Pac National Volcans, birders think of francolin, Rwenzori turaco and Rwenzori batis, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, strange weaver and Archer’s robin-chat, White-collared Oliveback, African Swamphen, Grey-headed Bushshrike, Bat Hawk, Narina Trogon, Lesser Honeyguide, Brown-backed Honeybird among others.
Day 6: Volcanic climbing in PVN
You can choose to hike Bisoke volcano (the most popular trail) and take 6-7 round trip, Ngezi Hike (3-4hrs hike) and the easiest of all, Karisimbi Hike (2 days hike) has the highest summit, Muhabura climb (the second highest peak).
Based on your level of fitness, budget, and schedule, you are free to choose any of your favorite challenges to take on.
Day 7: Visit Musanze caves
In simple terms, a cave is a natural underground space. Caves are formed gradually by the weathering of the rock and extend deep underground. It can be narrow or wide to accommodate people and Musanze caves are one of the wide caves in Rwanda.
Day 8: Iby’lwacu Cultural Village Safari
It’s situated near Volcanoes National Park in Musanze province. It’s a village of cultural diversity and an entertainment center. Booking is done in advance to allow the actors and actresses to prepare for the visitors. It can be done in the morning or afternoon based on the guests’ schedule.
End of the trip
