Semuliki National Park is one of the least visited national parks in Uganda. The park is located in the same locality as Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park, and Kibale Forest National Park.
When planning a trip to Semuliki National Park, you can make a stop in all these other national parks. Though Semuliki is mainly known for its hot springs; there are also mighty waterfalls in a few kilometers away from the park offices.
Activities
There are mainly two activities that Semuliki National Park is popular for; hotsprings and birding.
Semuliki Hotsprings
The Semuliki Hot Springs are located within Uganda’s Semuliki National Park. It is accessible via a guided nature walk through the rainforest near the park offices. These springs include two prominent features: the female hot spring, Bitente, and the male hot spring, Nyansimbi.
Nyansimbi reaches temperatures of up to 103°C (217°F), emitting steam that adds to the mystical ambiance of the surroundings, while Bitente maintains a slightly cooler temperature of around 98°C (208°F). These hot springs hold deep cultural importance for the local Bakonzo people, who consider them sacred and have incorporated them into healing rituals and traditional ceremonies for generations.
Visitors to Semuliki National Park can experience the unique sight of steam rising from the bubbling pools, set against a backdrop of verdant forest.
