It’s a true African savanna park which is situated in southwestern Kenya. Masai Mara National Reserve measures 1510 square Kilometers bordering Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the south. It’s a unique conservation area famous for its spectacular diversity of wildlife. It is a premier Kenya safari located in East Africa offering visitors numerous reasons to visit the animal paradise. Animals you can miss seeing include lions, cheetahs, elephants, Rhinos, African buffaloes, wildebeests, Giraffes, and zebras.
It’s not a surprise that Masai Mara National Reserve was selected among the seven wonders of the world. You can imagine the annual “Great Migration” of hundreds and thousands of animals migrating from Masai mara to Serengeti National Park and the reserve is true. The dramatic incident happens when thousands of wildebeests, and zebras among others cross the Mara River – the colony of crocodiles and Hippos!!
Activities done in Masai Mara National Reserve
Tour game drive
This is an adventurous excursion by vehicle into Masai Mara National Reserve. The game drive enables visitors to view a variety of wild animals, birds, drainage features, topography, and vegetation among others. At Suubi Safaris, we use 4×4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs for clear viewing and excellent photography.
Game drives are usually done between 2-3hrs per drive. Masai mara offers two shifts; morning game drive and afternoon games but you can request for a night game drive to see nocturnal animals like leopards or wild cat families and birds like owls among others. Some visitors choose a full-day game drive from 4 am to 4 pm accompanied by a picnic lunch which is usually done in picnic-designated areas.
Hot Air Ballon
It’s a once-lifetime event. Imagine having an aerial view of the animals in a savanna park! The balloon takes off at the break of dawn, around 6 am, gliding silently during the ride over the savannah grasslands below where you may spot a variety of wildlife. The flight lasts an hour and concludes with a ”Champagne Bush Breakfast” at the balloon landing site in the wilderness. The balloon is flown by a fully qualified and experienced Pilot and the balloons themselves are most often made by Cameron, a specialist hot air balloon manufacturer in Great Britain
Masai Community Tour
Masai is the dominant ethnic group surrounding the Masai Mara National Reserve. No journey to the Masai Mara would be complete without an authentic cultural experience that gets you up close and personal with the fascinating Maasai people. They will invite you into their humble mud, stick manyattas (homesteads), and reveal their pastoral world and ancient, time-honored traditions.
Horse ride safari – Without a safari vehicle, you can still explore Masai Mara on the horse’s back. Expect to see dazzles of zebra, journeys of giraffes, and, if the time is right, the mighty herds of the Great Migration.
